Host a Screening of LYNDA
A painter suffering in the aftermath of trauma develops a bond with the man who took her son’s life. Bring the film, and the conversation it starts, to your community.
Lynda is an activist and painter who lives and works with her husband, John in Sparta, N.C. In a series of interviews conducted while Lynda paints her tragic personal history is revealed. Over twenty years ago, her youngest son Brian was murdered in a “random act of violence,” and her youngest son Phillip subsequently died from an opioid overdose. Lynda is rendered hopeless. This changes when she looks into the eyes of James, the offender who took Brian’s life, at his sentencing hearing. Lynda is permanently transformed by this moment. She is blindsided by a feeling of love and responsibility for James and this informs every decision she makes from that moment on. Her life’s mission is crystallized. The love she feels leads her on a path to reconciling with James and she is surprised to learn that he has been trying to find her as well. In this compelling drama, we follow Lynda and James on their mutual quest to find each other.
