Exformative Entertainment is a new independent production company based in Durham, NC that specializes in creating thought-provoking and emotionally complex original films and commercial content.

Our Cast

  • TJ is a professional editor, director, writer, educator, and brand-building media producer. He earned an MFA in Film Production at U.S.C.’s Cinema School in 2007 and subsequently apprenticed under writer/director Terrence Malick. He was a contributing editor on "The Tree of Life." Recently, he wrote & was an editor on "Citizen Ashe", released by CNN Films, Magnolia Pictures, and Max Originals in 2021. He's a Lecturer of Film and Film and Theology at Duke University where he serves on the board of "Duke Initiatives in Theology & The Arts." Other notable projects to which he's made editorial contributions are “Vinyl” by Sara Sugarman (A Very Annie Mary, Confessions Of A Teenage Drama Queen), “Mossadegh” written and directed by Roozbeh Dadvand, and "Overexposed" by Oscar nominated director Gregg Helvey. "Vinyl" was voted one of the "Top 10 Independent Films of 2013" by the London Review and "Mossadegh" garnered a variety of prizes in film festivals around the world. TJ's film, "The Abattoir", screened worldwide to rave reviews and won the coveted "Best Short Film" award at the New Hampshire Film Festival in 2009. David Gordon Green was a generous Industry Mentor on the film.

    In addition to his work in Film and as an Educator, TJ has 10 years of experience creating media-driven marketing material for major Talent & Advertising agencies. He was Head of Creative Marketing at APA (now IAG, a top-five Talent and Literary agency) for a duration of four years. There, he pioneered a vision for generating New Media portfolios that would become the industry benchmark. The dynamic advertising resources TJ created quickly became an indispensable selling tool for the agents at APA. Some of the clients for which TJ built these New Media Portfolios include Jason Momoa, Viola Davis, & Imagine Dragons. In subsequent years, TJ transferred that experience into the creation of advertising content for clients that include, but aren't limited to, The Department of Veteran's Affairs, Pearson Education, Duke University, and Lenovo.

  • David Delaney Mayer is a filmmaker and entrepreneur from Durham, NC. He is passionate about independent documentaries, especially stories related to the American south. He is an Emmy-nominated American director/producer and winner of Forbes 30 under 30 award. David is the founder/CEO of Elemmir, a marketing startup that powers video production for b2b tech companies, and David is the co-founder of DreamxAmerica, covered in Forbes magazine. David has produced multi-million dollar television shows and his films have been shown in festivals across the world. In 2011 David played basketball at Duke under Coach Mike Krzyzewski before leaving the team to produce films.
